ShareWell’s 2018 Discovery Award Dinner
ShareWell is a new name here but it isn’t new to supporting the Zimmer Children’s Museum.
Barbara is a supporter of the Zimmer Children’s Museum, which from the Jewish Federation Building on Museum Row, has been a place that encourages children, youth, and families to practice being their best selves through immersive play.
As 2019 begins, the museum will have a new name and a new location. It’s moving to Santa Monica Place and will be called the Cayton Children’s Museum by ShareWell, in commemoration of a generous gift from Andrea and Barry Cayton (The Goldrich Family Foundation).
The new space will have five core wings with exhibits offering fun, interactive experiences for young people to learn how to take care of themselves, take care of others, and play their way to a better world. Along with the increased accessibility and visibility afforded by our new location, our We All Play initiative will continue to ensure that every child and family can enjoy the museum.
Additionally, youTHink by ShareWell continues to engage over 3,000 Title I public school students, ages 11-19, in creative arts education to help them find their voice, cultivate a social conscience, develop leadership skills and make a positive impact in their communities.
This dinner, honoring Andrea & Barry Cayton, Craig Erwich and Sandra Stern is in continued support of this fine children’s museum. There will be an auction as well as the dinner.

Rett Syndrome Research Trust presents
Reverse Rett LA
Imagine your daughter, your sister, your granddaughter living with the symptoms of autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, and scoliosis all at once. Imagine that she developed normally as a happy little girl until she was two years old. She starts to walk, to say words, to explore the world around her. Then, suddenly, she stops. She loses the ability to balance, to use her hands and to speak. Imagine this bright, beautiful little girl that you love becomes trapped in a body that no longer cooperates. 350,000 girls and women live this tragedy, caused by a random genetic mutation. This is Rett Syndrome and we need your help to cure it.
And support, Barbara does, as does WP Catering.
The Rett Syndrome Research Trust is making remarkable progress. Approaches that attack Rett at its genetic core are advancing with great promise. The first human clinical trial for Rett in gene therapy is on track to begin soon.
100% of funds raised by this event go directly to the support of RSRT to speed this research ahead and change the lives of 350,000 children and adults who struggle with the devastating symptoms of Rett.

Save A Heart Foundation Gala — Under The Fall Night Sky
Honoring Norman Lepor
Barbara will be there in support of the foundation and Norman Lepor as he is honored by the Save A Heart Foundation for the work he has done over the last thirty years and for the lives he has impacted as a practicing cardiologist in the community. As he invites friends and fellow supporters of the work the foundation is doing, he explains the bigger picture and the importance of this event:
“Over the years, The Save A Heart Foundation, led by Dr. Yzhar Charuzi, has funded the research activities of fellows in training who upon completing their term and returning to Israel have assumed leadership positions in the field of cardiology back home.
Unfortunately in Israel, funding opportunities for such research training are very limited due to the dollars that go to its defense, forcing these fellows to look to the United States and Europe for funding and research opportunities.
What is incredible is how productive these fellows have been during their two year stays in California, in fact often more productive with basic or bedside clinical research then our own homegrown fellows from the Untied States as measured by publication of their work in world class cardiology journals. And the work they have done has led to discoveries that have benefited patients with cardiovascular disease.”

Friends of Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer
2018 Inaugural Women’s Community Luncheon
The Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer was born along with Israel under the leadership of Dr. Chaim Sheba, Surgeon General, Israel Defense Forces, and originally named as Tel Hashomer, the “Hill of the Guardian” by Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion in honor of those guarding and defending the road to Jerusalem.
Sheba Medical Center is the most comprehensive medical center in Israel and the Middle East.
It is recognized internationally for its leadership in clinical treatment, as well as basic and applied medical research. At Sheba, clinical treatment and medical research are closely intertwined, in proximity to the patient, for the direct benefit of the patient. Sheba is one of only two medical centers in Israel with US Department of Health Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) designation – a classification that makes Sheba eligible for U.S. federal research grants involving human clinical trials. Israeli and international biotech and medical industries work in close synergy with Sheba scientists and clinicians to develop new medical technologies and drugs, often using Sheba as their main testing site.
Friends of Sheba Medical Center is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization dedicated to raising awareness and philanthropic support for Sheba Medical Center’s compassionate clinical care, cutting edge research and comprehensive educational training.
Barbara is a long-time supporter of this organization and has been on Sheba’s board of directors since 2011.

Spago Beverly Hills & Barbara Lazaroff present… Spago’s 34th Annual Seder
benefiting Mazon, A Jewish Response To Hunger
This year, Barbara hosteds her 34th second night Passover Seder. As always, this special seder is for the benefit of MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger — a national nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger among all faiths and backgrounds in the United States and Israel. The dinner raises funds that help families in Los Angeles.
I created this event at the original Spago in Hollywood when I realized there were others like me who felt detached from their families as life had become more fragmented,” Lazaroff said. “Over the years this festive event continues to be a heartfelt and delicious tradition that brings together guests of all ages. ~Barbara
In addition to the spirited service, led by Rabbi Rachlis and Cantor Braier, the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir joined the evening event to sing two specially prepared songs.
Each year Chef de Cuisine Tetsu Yahagi and Executive Pastry Chef Della Gossett prepare an exquisite menu of holiday specials including chef Tetsu’s home-made gefilte fish, and chicken and vegetable soup with Judy Gethers’ matzo balls, and chef Della’s gorgeous dessert buffet ranging from matzo toffee, fromage blanc cheesecake, Passover puffs with caramel, and more. Each guest also receives Spago’s oven-baked matzah and macaroons packaged to-go. (Guests say they look forward to those macaroons all year.) Wine Director Phillip Dunn will offer a variety of wine pairings indigenous to Israel.
Over the years, seder guests have included entertainers such as Rita Moreno, Melissa Manchester, Lainie Kazan, Carol Connors, Max Ehrich and Gregg Sulkin, as well as studio heads and directors.
I feel if you open your traditions and celebrations to all, no matter your religion, background or customs, it fosters tolerance, greater harmony and closer understanding among all people.
